Professional Experience:

Public Library 1997 –2005

Librarian in Humanities, Public Relations and Business and Government, Branch Libraries

·         Responsible for Foundation Collection and Small Business.

·         Produced publicity materials for all library programming & assisted with other promotional efforts including revamping the Calendar of Events & Burgert Brothers Calendar

·         Updated FAQ module for Business and Government related items/3000 hits a month

·         Developed highly successful Small Business programming, conceived/produced "50 Ways to Find New Business @ Your Library," and also "Grant Seeking @ Your Library."

·         Participated in training and outreach on these and other topics for internal and external agencies. Judged and promoted annual Wit Lit Poetry Contest.

·         In charge of building/department in absence of supervisor, supervised directly part-time and volunteer staff including Friends of the Library

 

New York Public Library - 1993-1997

·         Hudson Park Library Branch, Jefferson Market Regional Branch, Hamilton Fish Park Library, 58th Street Library, Donnell Library Center and Andrew Heiskell Talking Book Library.

·         From Librarian to Adult/Reference Senior Assistant Librarian.

·         Managed budgets and collection development for a broad range of library populations.

·         Active member of the Books to Remember Committee and served as Prime Selector for booklists.

·         Implemented poetry discussion group, continued/rebuilt book discussion groups and produced a wildly successful Literary Walking Tour program.

Selected Presentations/Instruction/Experience

·         At Mote Marine Laboratory: assisted with special projects: The final production of the Mina Walther book - proofreading and editing. Digitizing and uploading materials into DSpace on Mote's webpage. Part of the Open Archive Initiative project. Assisted with the creation of an annotated bibliography for the "Protect Our Reefs" project. Created posters to help promote the coral reef grant project and book sales of Mote publications, Created a library brochure for summer interns.

·         Cataloging : MARC 21 , Copy cataloging using OCLC and Z39.5 protocol.

·         Science reference : Literature searching  and ILL using various databases including ASFA, FirstSearch, Medline, Agricola etc.

·         Perform ILLs including verification of citation, and receiving and sending materials using the Ariel document delivery system.

·         April 2003, “Grantseeking @Your Library – Online Sources.” For the public @ the John F. Germany Library.

·         June 2003, “Grantseeking @Your Library – Online Sources.” For grantwriting professionals and nonprofits @ the Pinellas Grants Collaborative annual seminar.

·         2001-2003, Reference Committee Member for the Tampa Hillsborough Library Cooperative.

·         2001-2003, Contributed/maintained the Business & Government portion of the “Frequently Asked Questions” database.  This local database generated 3000 hits a month during the time I contributed to it.

·         2003, Poetry Committee Member for the Tampa Hillsborough Library Cooperative.

·         Produced and instructed “100 Ways To Be Happy and Single in Tampa Bay  at Baywinds Adult Learning Centre

·         Two Kathy Fountain WTVT “Your Turn” live television, call-in shows defending books some members of the community wished to ban.

·         Reviewed/reported on challenged material

·         2002-3, “Business Start-Up.” Series of multi-part programs. Formed partnerships with City, County and other agencies to bring to public.

·         2002, First Night Tampa Bay’s Word Café – conceived, booked, located funding, organized a family friendly event that attracted about 500 people through-out New Year’s Night to the John F. Germany Auditorium.  Served as Board Member on First Night Tampa.

·         1994-6, Books To Remember Committee @ New York Public. After a year of reviewing nearly 300 books, participated in huge presentation at the Lincoln Center and Donnell Library Center Auditorium.

·         Noted Tampa freelance writer contributing to local papers including 3 cover stories, “Best of” special issues and other publications.

·         1998-2001, Ran a poetry open mic “Poetry in the Dark” that often received newspaper coverage and “Best of” recognitions.
